About

Wild Ones is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to promote environmentally sound landscaping practices to preserve biodiversity through the preservation, restoration, and establishment of native plant communities. The organization was founded in 1977 and is headquartered in Neenah, Wisconsin.

Our local chapter, Wild Ones New York Metro Region, services Nassau, Suffolk, and New York City’s boroughs of Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island.

The organization’s focus is on promoting the use of native plants in landscaping, which can help create healthy habitats for birds, butterflies, and other wildlife, while also reducing the need for pesticides and fertilizers.

Wild Ones offers a variety of resources and programs to help individuals and communities learn about and promote native plants and sustainable landscaping practices. These resources include educational materials, webinars, conferences, and local chapter events.

The organization also sponsors a certification program for individuals who want to become certified as Native Plant Landscaping Professionals. This program provides education and training in sustainable landscaping practices and the use of native plants.

In addition to promoting sustainable landscaping practices, Wild Ones is also involved in conservation efforts to protect and preserve natural habitats for wildlife. The organization advocates for the preservation of natural areas and works with government agencies, other organizations, and individuals to protect threatened and endangered species and their habitats.
